How do I set it up?

Add your workplace, your hourly rate, and the day your workweek starts (it's usually printed on your paystub; Sunday is most common). Allow location if you want shifts logged automatically. That's it — after that the app is meant to be invisible.

Do I have to open the app?

No. That's the point. Tally logs your arrivals and departures on its own. Most weeks there will be nothing for you to do.

Does it drain my battery?

Very little. It uses geofences rather than continuous GPS, so it does nothing between arriving at work and leaving.

What if a shift is missing its end time?

It stays out of every total until you set one — Tally will never guess an end time for you. Open the shift and pick from the suggestions, which are based on how long your shifts usually run.

What does the gold colour mean?

Premium hours you've earned — overtime or double time. It's good news, which is why it isn't a warning colour.

What does the clay colour mean?

Something only you can answer. Tally uses it for questions, never for accusations.

Why does it ask whether I took a break?

Because it genuinely cannot tell. Location shows you were on site; it cannot show whether you ate at your desk. Rather than guess, Tally asks — and "I don't remember" is a perfectly good answer that simply leaves the item out.

Does it tell me my employer did something wrong?

No, and it is designed not to. Tally reports what your own record says, what the published wage rules compute, and where the two differ. There is often an innocent explanation, and the app says so next to every difference. What it means is your call.

Which states does it cover?

California and Texas have their own rules; everywhere else falls back to the federal FLSA floor, and the app tells you when that's happening rather than implying coverage it doesn't have. Every rule shows the statute behind it and when it was last checked.

Is there a subscription?

No. Logging your hours and seeing the difference are free, always. One payment of $19.99 unlocks the evidence PDF, past pay periods, multiple workplaces and pattern history across your stubs.

Is this legal advice?

No. Tally is a personal record-keeping tool. If you think something is wrong with your pay, a state labour agency or an employment attorney is the right next step.
