Privacy Policy

Tally collects no personal data. There is no account, no tracking, no ads, and no analytics. Your shifts, your workplace locations and your paystubs stay on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud.

What we collect

Nothing. Tally has no servers and no account system. The shifts it logs, the workplaces you add, the paystubs you photograph and the settings you choose are stored on your device and are never transmitted to us or to any third party.

This matters more here than in most apps. A record of where you work and when is sensitive, and a record of a dispute with an employer is more sensitive still. The only way to guarantee we cannot expose it is not to have it.

Location

Tally uses geofences, not continuous location tracking. You tell it where you work; iOS then notifies the app when you cross that boundary, and the app does nothing in between. That is why it costs very little battery.

Your workplace coordinates and your arrival and departure times are stored on the device and are never uploaded. We never see them, and there is nowhere for us to send them.

You can decline location entirely and log shifts by hand. The app is fully usable that way.

iCloud sync

If you are signed in to iCloud, Tally keeps your ledger in your private CloudKit database so it survives a lost phone and follows you to a new one.

That database is yours, inside your own Apple account. We have no access to it — there is no developer-readable copy, and we could not retrieve your hours if you asked us to. Apple's iCloud terms and encryption apply.

If you would rather nothing left the device at all, sign out of iCloud or turn off iCloud Drive for Tally in iOS Settings. The app works exactly the same locally.

Paystub scanning

When you photograph a paystub, it is read entirely on your device using Apple's on-device text recognition. The image and the extracted text never leave your phone. Nothing is compared until you confirm the figures yourself.

Notifications

Tally sends one kind of notification: a reminder when a shift is missing its end time. If you turn on Hide notification contents, that alert deliberately says nothing about your hours or your employer.

App lock

If you enable the lock, authentication is handled entirely by iOS (Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode). Tally never sees your biometrics.

If your phone is managed by your employer

If your device is enrolled in an employer's mobile device management, it is not private, and nothing any app can do changes that. Tally says so in Settings rather than implying a protection it cannot provide.

Children

Tally is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated date above changes with it.
