How much does Subtext cost?

Subtext is free with the full pipeline and unlimited exports — each free export carries a small Subtext watermark. A single one-time purchase removes the watermark and unlocks saved style presets, the filler-word sweep, and .srt/.vtt export. No subscription, no per-minute meter, ever.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Importing, transcribing, editing, styling, and exporting all work with no internet connection. The only time Subtext may use the network is a one-time, Apple-managed download of an on-device language model the first time you caption in a new language.

Where is my data stored?

Everything stays on your device. There's no Subtext account and no upload — your footage and audio never leave your iPhone. Your original videos in Photos are left untouched; captioned exports are saved back to your library only when you choose to export.

Which languages does Subtext support?

Subtext transcribes in the languages Apple's on-device speech models support on your device, with automatic language detection and a manual override. Accuracy varies by language; you always approve every word in the editor before exporting.

Do the captions have a watermark?

Free exports carry a small “Made with Subtext” mark in the corner; the one-time unlock removes it. Exports preserve your original resolution and frame rate up to 4K, with the captions burned in.

Which devices are supported?

Subtext requires iOS 26 or later on iPhone (iPad supported), where Apple's on-device transcription is available.
