Privacy Policy

Subtext is built to be private by default. Your video is captioned entirely on your iPhone — your footage and audio never leave the device, and we never see them.

Data we collect

None. Subtext does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data to us or any third party. There is no Subtext account, no sign-up, and no analytics or tracking on your content.

Where your data lives

• The videos you import, the transcripts Subtext generates, your edits, and your saved style presets are stored only on your device.
• Transcription runs on-device using Apple's on-device speech models. Your audio is never uploaded for transcription.
• Subtext works fully offline. The only time it may use the network is a one-time, Apple-managed download of an on-device language model the first time you caption in a new language.

Your videos

• When you import a clip, Subtext copies it into the app so it can work on it; your original stays in your Photos library untouched.
• Exported, captioned videos are saved back to your photo library only when you choose to export. Subtext never uploads your video anywhere.

Purchases

The one-time unlock is processed by Apple through the App Store. Subtext never sees your payment details. Apple's handling of purchase data is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Third parties

Subtext contains no third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs.
