Email hello@ashvara.io and a person will read it. Tell us your route, the date and what you saw.

Where does the forecast come from?

Smooth uses NOAA's turbulence forecasts: the GFS global weather model, turned into a turbulence index, and over the United States the Graphical Turbulence Guidance that aviation forecasters use. Official warnings (SIGMETs and G-AIRMETs) and recent pilot reports from aviationweather.gov are added on top. The forecast updates four times a day; warnings and pilot reports hourly.

How accurate is it?

Turbulence forecasts are good at telling bumpier stretches from smoother ones, not at predicting each individual bump. Treat Smooth as a guide to when it's likely to get bumpy and for how long. It never says a flight is safe or unsafe. Always keep your seatbelt fastened whenever you're seated and follow your crew.

Why does my flight say "Forecast opens closer to departure"?

The forecast reaches about two days ahead. Add your flight any time; Smooth fills it in automatically once it's in range.

My flight time looks wrong

Smooth estimates the time from distance and typical winds. Tap Edit next to "Gate to gate" when adding a flight and enter the time on your ticket. In the air, the countdown follows your real position by GPS, so delays and a different route are handled automatically.

Does it work in airplane mode?

Yes. Open Smooth before you board (you'll get a reminder an hour before departure) so the latest forecast is saved. In the air, start in-flight mode: it uses GPS, which works in airplane mode, and needs no Wi-Fi. Keep your phone near a window for the first GPS fix.

The countdown isn't on my Lock Screen

Live Activities must be allowed: iPhone Settings › Apps › Smooth › Live Activities. In-flight mode must be running (the button on the flight's forecast).

What are "felt bumps"?

During in-flight mode, your phone's motion sensors measure the bumps you feel. Picking up or using the phone is detected and ignored. Lying on the tray table or in a seat pocket works best. You can make it more or less sensitive in Settings › Bump sensitivity.
