Paydown is a planning tool. It estimates what each federal repayment plan would cost you. It does not choose a plan for you, change your plan, or give financial, tax or legal advice.
What Paydown is
Paydown reads the federal student loans you import or enter, applies the repayment rules in 20 U.S.C. §1087e and §1098e and 34 CFR 685.209 as they stand in its ruleset, and simulates each plan you are eligible for, month by month. Each figure shows its working and its citation.
What Paydown is not
Paydown is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid, or any loan servicer. It cannot see your account, change your plan, certify employment or apply for forgiveness. Those happen through StudentAid.gov and your servicer.
Estimates, not promises. Results depend on the figures you enter and on assumptions about the future — income growth, family size, tax law, and rules that may change. The actual payment is whatever your servicer calculates. Nothing in the app is financial, tax or legal advice.
Rules change
The ruleset version is printed in Settings and on every plan PDF. Rules can change by law, regulation or court order after that date; updated rules arrive only when you update the app. The statute and regulations govern, not the app.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter, for confirming your eligibility and payment with your servicer before acting, and for the decisions you make.
Purchases
The unlock is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase sold and refunded by Apple under the App Store's terms. Importing, the loan map, the plan menu with monthly payments and every trap alert remain free.
Liability
Paydown is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, Ashvara is not liable for losses arising from reliance on its estimates.
