What does Cull do?
Cull does the first pass on a photo shoot for you. It scores every frame (sharpness, eyes open/closed, exposure), groups near-identical shots into "moments", and stars the best of each burst — so you can keep or reject them in minutes instead of hours. Everything happens on your device.
How do I import a shoot?
On the home screen tap Import, then choose Photos, Files, or an SD card (via USB-C). Cull scores the frames as they come in — you can start reviewing before it finishes.
How do I review — what are all those controls?
On the Review screen: swipe or tap the green ✓ (keep), red ✕ (reject) or ★ (star) to decide the current photo. The filmstrip shows the other shots in that burst, with a gold star on the AI's pick. The face chips (circles with an eye icon) show each detected face and whether its eyes were open — tap one to zoom to 100%. Double-tap or pinch the photo to zoom in and check focus. Tap the verdict chip at the top to see why a photo was scored the way it was. The first time you open Cull it runs a quick walkthrough — you can replay it any time from Settings → How Cull works.
Does Cull ever delete or change my photos?
No. Your decisions are saved as flags, and your original photos are never modified or deleted. Even "reject" just flags a photo — nothing is removed from your library.
How do I get my picks into Lightroom?
When you're done, Apply cull, then Export → XMP sidecars. Cull writes standards-based XMP files next to your photos — your picks are flagged and your stars become ratings — which Lightroom and Capture One read directly. You can also export a JPEG folder, a Photos album, or a CSV.
Do my photos get uploaded anywhere?
Never. Cull has no servers and no account. All scoring, grouping and reviewing happens on your device using Apple's on-device Vision framework — you can confirm this by using Cull in airplane mode. See our Privacy Policy.
How do I delete a shoot?
On the home screen, long-press a shoot and choose Delete Shoot. This removes the shoot and its scores from Cull; your original photos are untouched.
Can I re-run the AI grouping differently?
Yes. Open a shoot's settings (the sliders icon) and pick a grouping profile — Portrait, Default, or Sports — to re-cluster the moments. Your keep/reject decisions are kept.
